Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) lessons learned:

OCI trails behind aws and azure by a large stretch; however, it has some niche benefits. What I’ve seen so far:

  • For the limited services offered, I can be cheaper. Care is needed to ensure costs don’t run away, though.

  • Database hosting has the potential to be cheaper and more resilient. Different benefits for different environments; however, not having to worry about infrastructure patching, firmware updates, etc, is a significant consideration.

  • Being simpler than the other major CSPs, it should be easier to learn, particularly if one is already reasonably familiar with other CSPs.

One issue I’ve seen so far though is, having a smaller market share, there isn’t as much training resources available to pick it up. So, I had to generate my own.
