When changing someone's home directory, the ~ shortcut doesn't get updated very quickly - if at all.

I found that out the hard way when I changed the ownership of most of the files on one of my domains this morning after changing ssp's home directory from / to /export/home/users/ssp. NOT GOOD!

Of course, had I known about the /var/sadm/install/contents file before hand, I could have used this little trick
